Macaroon Kisses

My mom called me the other day to tell me that she tried the most amazing cookies at the Granville, Ohio farmers market over the weekend. When she mentioned they had Hershey Kisses smooshed into the middle I of course immediately needed to try them.

I'm obsessed with Hershey Kisses. I blame my Grandma, growing up she always had a glass jar filled with candy and a lot of the time it was Hershey Kisses. Every time I went to visit I would completely clean out the jar.


At 99 calories each you won't feel bad for snacking on one of these.. or two.. okay five i've had five cookies. I just can't resist.


Macaroon Kisses 

1 pkg. (3 oz.) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 egg yolk
2 teaspoons almond extract
2 teaspoons orange juice
1 1/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups sweetened flaked coconut
54 chocolate kisses, unwrapped (9 oz.)

Beat the butter, cream cheese, and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light
and fluffy. Add egg yolk, almond extract, and orange juice.  Beat well.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt.  Gradually add to butter mixture.
Stir in 1 cup of coconut. Cover tightly and refrigerate one hour or until firm
to handle.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into one inch balls. Roll in
coconut. Arrange on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Bake 10 to 12
minutes or until lightly browned.  Remove from oven and immediately press a
kiss into center.  Cool one minute and transfer to wire rack. 

Notes: The recipe calls for 54 kisses, I ended up with 35 cookies so I only used 35 kisses!
